This session will address the nature and range of training opportunities available to those who wish to undertake work as community musician, focusing particularly on the training provision offered to undergraduates in universities and colleges of higher education in the UK.
Detail
In addressing the skill set required to work successfully in the field of community music, this session will also identify the various roles of the community musician and the subsequent demands of each.
It will consider the skills and methods common to both formal educational and informal community settings, looking at how various methods traditional to each have transferred to the other as well as the consequent vital partnerships between schools, colleges, universities and community music organisations that facilitate the musical learning of the participant and the training of the undergraduate.
