How do you support musical progression? - experiences and practices from across the music education sector

Over the past three years, Youth Music has been collaborating with hundreds of organisations and individuals across the music education sector to find out about the different ways in which people are supporting young people's musical progression towards excellence. What are the different effective practices from Community Music organisations, from schools, from the National Youth Music Organisations (NYMOs), from music-based mentoring, from Early Years and from young people themselves?

In this session, Ben Sandbrook will start by presenting a highly acclaimed alternative model (in 3D!) for looking at young people's musical progression journeys. He'll then demonstrate some of the different ways in which people are supporting those journeys, drawing on a diverse range of free online professional learning materials where organisations are sharing their practice through engaging web-based experiences.

A final discussion will seek participants' ideas about these materials and review them in the context of the National Curriculum changes and the emerging music education hubs.
