Take it away

Take it away is an initiative from Arts Council England that aims to get more children and young people playing music by providing interest-free loans for the purchase of musical instruments and associated goods.

The scheme launched in July 2007 and is currently available through a network of over 300 musical instrument retailers across England.

The scheme is open to adults buying a musical instrument for a child under the age of 18 and 18-25 year olds who can apply in their own right. It works by letting individuals spread the costs, completely interest-free, over 9 months (with a 10% deposit), making it more affordable to get hold of the right instrument. Accessories and tuition (where available in participating retailers) can also be added to the purchase so that the young person has everything they need to get playing!
