Kodály Musicianship
David Vinden
This will be a workshop of ideas and materials suitable for a wide range of teaching ages and situations.
One serious misunderstanding of the Kodály concept is that it is only for early years. This myth will be dispelled in this session which will give ideas on developing rhythm, coordination, pitching, harmonic hearing, 2-part hearing, simple composition and so on.
It will not be age specific but certainly higher primary, middle-school, secondary and tertiary levels would benefit from the ideas worked on in this session. Kodály said that only musical activity can lead someone to an understanding of music simply listening is not enough. This session is for classroom teachers, lecturers, instrumental teachers and choral leaders.
