Taiko Drumming

Jonathan Kirby is the founder and artistic director of Kagemusha Taiko, who perform nationally and internationally, in festivals, theatres and concert halls, ranging from the Milan Fashion Show to the BBC Proms.
 
The youth section of the group, Kagemusha Junior Taiko has also won wide acclaim for excellence, performing twice in Japan as well as appearing regularly in the Music for Youth Schools Proms.
 
As author of Teaching Taiko – Principles and Practice, the world's first English-language guide to learning and teaching taiko, as well as the taiko component of the Musical Futures programme, Jonathan is the country's leading authority on taiko in education.
 
Newly released in partnership with Drums for Schools, Jonathan Kirby's Taiko Drumming Book takes teacher and pupils step by step from basics to first performance in just 10 lessons.  Complete with teacher's notes, preparation advice, lesson plans and accompanying DVD.
 
Jonathan is also the director of the annual UK Taiko Festival.
