Aimed at secondary teachers this workshop is presented by Peter Edwards - Musical Director of Tomorrow's Warriors Youth Jazz Orchestra and Nu Civilisation Orchestra, jazz pianist, composer, arranger and band leader.

Ever thought your school's jazz band could do with sounding a bit more, er...jazzy? Want to gain confidence teaching jazz in the classroom? Then this workshop is for you. Focussing primarily on the key elements requisite for teaching and playing jazz successfully at any level, you'll come away armed with helpful tips to enhance your and your young musicians' experience of teaching and learning jazz.

Tomorrow's Warriors are acclaimed leaders in youth music education and professional artist development, having developed a host of multiple award-winning artists and musicians. Jazz pianist/composer, and Musical Director of the Tomorrow's Warriors professional touring ensemble - the Nu Civilisation Orchestra - Peter Edwards leads an interactive session aimed at those responsible for teaching jazz in schools and for making the school jazz band sound like a REAL jazz band! Rhythmic security and coordination are the key to the successful performance of jazz. Peter will demonstrate effective ways to teach basic rhythmic concepts found in jazz and offer tips on how to instil good time feel and groove in young musicians. Live music from members of Tomorrow's Warriors and, being jazz, it's going to swing so come prepared to sing, clap and move!
