Introducing the Skoog
Benjaman Schögler
N.B. This is a 30-minute session
Come and get your hands on the Skoog. A new tool for music education, therapy and creative practice. Easy to install and simple to use, the Skoog is a completely new kind of musical instrument that makes playing music accessible to children of any ability or disability. The Skoog platform is MAC- and PC-compatible supporting individual and multiple users. The Skoogmusic platform can be used by those with or without musical training, a unique resource for inclusive music practice - or just having fun!
Dr Benjaman Schögler, one of the creators of this revolutionary new technology, will be on hand to answer all your questions and show you how the Skoog can contribute to your inclusive music provision. The session will include a live demonstration as well as providing information about:
- Skoog in Special Education
- Cross-curricular activities
- Sampling and Midi
- Tracking performance and measuring physical ability
- Using the Skoog with other multimedia packages such as GarageBand
The Skoog is a colourful, squeezy cube that is sensitive to the slightest touch, yet robust enough to resist strong handling. It allows children who are severely disabled to play music in an expressive way.
Technology within the instrument’s soft, tactile surface is linked to a computer which converts the way the Skoog is touched into the sound of different instruments such as flute, trumpet or marimba. As a result, users can play a variety of sounds on the Skoog and alter pitch, timbre and volume with a very small range of movement.
