Improving Music Transition: progression routes across the new music education hub landscape
Adrian Chappell
In this session Adrian Chappell, Programme Convenor for Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Musical Bridges: transforming transition, will outline strategies to support effective musical progression for pupils transferring into their new secondary school.
The session begins with a presentation of examples and insights gained from Musical Bridges’ research and CPD activities over the past year. This will cover four areas:
- A framework that enables pupils, teachers and senior school leaders to consider the ‘factors in play’ that influence the quality of musical progression across school transfer
- Targeting and integrating the key players – pupils, teachers (generalists and music specialists) and schools’ senior leadership teams
- Resources developed by Musical Bridges for schools and music education hubs to use – Musical Bridges’ Transition Tracker, CPD elements and online students’ music passport
- Activities and strategies: how musical progression across school transfer can be strengthened in the new music education hub environment?
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A in the second part of the session.
