Diane Widdison
The Art of Teaching
Diane Widdison has over 20 years' experience of working in music education, mainly in delivering instrumental tuition. She has worked at the Musicians' Union since 2006 and in that time has transformed the work the union does on behalf of musicians who teach.
The MU has a Teaching Section and a Teaching Committee with a biennial conference for its members who teach. As the National Organiser for Live Performance and Teaching, Diane has a national remit and some of the recent initiatives she has worked on are the agreement with the National Union of Teachers, the collaboration with the online teacher database musicteachers.co.uk and the bespoke course, Child Protection Awareness in Music which was developed in conjunction with the NSPCC, ABRSM and MusicLeader.
Diane is on the Executive Committee of the Music Education Council. She still endeavours to play the flute when she can.
