David Vinden

Kodály Musicianship

David Vinden is a highly experienced and sought-after teacher, lecturer and conductor. He has worked all over the world and has produced a very wide range of teaching materials. He is co-author of the highly acclaimed Jolly Music series and has produced over 30 items to enhance music teaching from flash cards, collection of songs and canons to the modern performing editions of Musica Transalpina I (1588), the complete canons of Cherubini and research in Cecil Sharp’s songs collected by him from children… as yet unpublished.

He began his musical career as a choir boy at Truro Cathedral before entering the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Holloway College. After an initial period of teaching, he went to Hungary to study at the Kodály Institute and returned to a position at the Purcell School, later becoming its Director of Music.

He has conducted orchestras and workshops in the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Brisbane University, Westminster Choir College in Princeton and the Liszt Academy in Budapest as well as the South Bank and Wigmore Hall in London.

He is currently a lecturer in Kodály Musicianship, group tutor and chorus master at the Guildhall School of Music. He is conductor of the Kodály Choir of London.
