Supporting musical progression

Ben Sandbrook is Music Education Development Manager at Youth Music where he is responsible for leading and supporting new developments in music education. He has broad experience of developing and directing collaborative music education programmes, having been responsible at Youth Music for the delivery of the MusicLeader, Youth Music Mentors, Voltage, Passport and SoundStage funding programmes and Youth Music's developmental programmes around Early Years, encouraging talent and potential and workforce development.

He developed the Spotlighting pilot programme for enabling organisations to share effective practice which has engaged organisations from across music education - from small Early Years organisations to the National Youth Orchestra - and supported them to evaluate and communicate the practice they have developed. He has also convened and facilitated national networks and workshop series around young music leadership, National Curriculum change, Early Years national strategy, Early Years practice and effective production of learning resources. He has taken the results of several of these processes forward to advocate successfully and influence policy change.

Ben has significant experience of online technology and online learning experiences for music education, having been the driving force behind the design and development of the Youth Music Network and multi-award-winning SoundJunction website at ABRSM and a founder member of the Teaching Music steering group.
